60\/285. The situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan<\/b><\/p>\n
<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00a0The General Assembly, <\/i><\/p>\n
\u00a0Seriously concerned<\/i> by the fires in the affected territories, which have\u00a0 inflicted widespread environmental damage,<\/p>\n
1. Stresses<\/i> the necessity to urgently conduct an environmental operation to\u00a0 suppress the fires in the affected territories and to overcome their detrimental\u00a0 consequences;<\/p>\n
2. Welcomes<\/i> the readiness of the parties to cooperate to that end, and \u00a0considers such an operation to be an important confidence-building measure;<\/p>\n
3. Takes note<\/i> of the intention of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to organize a mission to the region to assess the short- and long-term impact of the fires on the environment as a step in preparation for the environmental operation;<\/p>\n
4. Calls upon,<\/i> in this regard, the organizations and programmes of the \u00a0United Nations system, in particular the United Nations Environment Programme, in \u00a0cooperation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, to \u00a0provide all necessary assistance and expertise, including, inter alia, the assessment \u00a0of and counteraction to the short- and long-term impact of the environmental degradation of the region, as well as in its rehabilitation;<\/p>\n
5. Requests<\/i> the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and \u00a0Cooperation in Europe to provide a report on this matter to States members of the \u00a0General Assembly by 30 April 2007.<\/p>\n
