During its years of independence, Azerbaijan\u2019s 20 percent territory was occupied by Armenia, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in his opening speech at the 7th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations in Baku Apr. 26.<\/b><\/div>\n

The head of state noted that a number of reports as well as theOSCE fact-finding mission\u2019s report prove that religious and cultural monuments in occupied Azerbaijan territories have been destroyed. \u201c\u2026while in Azerbaijan an Armenia church has been repaired,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The international community and the UN Security Council call on the occupying forces to be pulled out of the occupied Azerbaijani territories, but Armenia still ignores these resolutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes we see UN resolutions get fulfilled in hours or days, but when it comes to Azerbaijan these resolutions have remained unfulfilled for more than two decades now,\u201d President Aliyev stressed. \u201cThe OSCE, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have adopted similar decisions, which Armenia continues to ignore. And the invader meets no international pressure\u201d.<\/p>\n

The head of state vowed to take back Azerbaijan\u2019s occupied territories from the enemy.<\/p>\n

He added that since 1988 hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were forced out of Armenia and another 700,000 out of Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n

\u201cAzerbaijan, at the time, had a population of only 8 million. Our country was one of the poorest. We have now created more than 90 settlements. These efforts continue.
