More than 450 houses owned by Azerbaijani internally displaced persons were damaged as a result of the shelling by Armenian armed forces in April, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of State Committee on Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov said on Tuesday.<\/b><\/div>\n

He made the remarks during a meeting with IDP families in Aghdam<\/a>\u2019s Baharli village that came under fire from the Armenian side last month.<\/p>\n

\n

Hasnov said that some 50 houses were completely destroyed,\u00a0most of which are located in the Terter district.<\/p>\n

\n

He noted that the reconstruction of the destroyed houses has already been started.<\/p>\n

\n

The PM added that 17 of those killed in the latest clashes were IDPs.<\/p>\n

\n

Then Hasanov arrived in Fuzuli<\/a>\u2019s Bala Bahmanli village to review the progress of construction at the newly-built IDP settlement.<\/p>\n

\n

The Nagorno-Karabakh <\/a>conflict entered its modern phase when the Armenian SRR made territorial claims against the Azerbaijani SSR in 1988.<\/p>\n

\n

A fierce war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh <\/a>region of Azerbaijan. As a result of the war, Armenian armed forces occupied some 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory which includesNagorno-Karabakh <\/a>and seven adjacent districts (Lachin, Kalbajar<\/a>, Aghdam<\/a>,Fuzuli<\/a>, Jabrayil<\/a>, Gubadli<\/a> and Zangilan<\/a>), and over a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced people.<\/p>\n

The military operations finally came to an end when Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in Bishkek in 1994.<\/p>\n

\n

Dealing with the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh <\/a>conflict is the OSCE<\/a>Minsk Group, which was created after the meeting of the OSCE<\/a> Ministerial Council in Helsinki on 24 March 1992. The Group\u2019s members include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, the United States, France, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Finland and Sweden.<\/p>\n

\n

Besides, the OSCE<\/a> Minsk Group has a co-chairmanship institution, comprised of Russian, US and French co-chairs, which began operating in 1996.<\/p>\n

\n

Resolutions 822, 853, 874 and 884 of the UN Security Council, which were passed in short intervals in 1993, and other resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly, PACE<\/a>, OSCE<\/a>, OIC, and other organizations require Armenia to unconditionally withdraw its troops from Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
