Azerbaijan has been informed about another attempt of Armenians to present the items of Azerbaijani cultural heritage as Armenian in Hermitage Museum in Russia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been informed about this. This is another Armenian provocation,\u201d Hikmet Hajiyev, a spokesman for Azerbaijan\u2019s Foreign Ministry, told Trend Sept. 21.<\/p>\n
\u201cAzerbaijan\u2019s embassy in Russia and the country\u2019s Consulate General in St. Petersburg are taking measures to prevent this provocation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Armenians plan to present the coins of Azerbaijani khanates as eastern Armenian coins in Hermitage Museum.<\/p>\n
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.<\/p>\n
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.<\/p>\n
