The Armenian army again launched military exercises in the occupied Azerbaijani territories on early Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exercises, involving heavy artillery and armored vehicles, are being held in the Armenian-occupied Kangarli village and on the territory called Uzundere in\u00a0<\/span>Aghdamdistrict,\u00a0<\/span>APA\u2019s Karabakh bureau reported.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The sounds of fire from heavy artillery are heard in settlements along the frontline.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Nagorno-Karabakh\u00a0<\/span>conflict entered its modern phase when the Armenian SRR made territorial claims against the Azerbaijani SSR in 1988.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A fierce war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the\u00a0<\/span>Nagorno-Karabakh\u00a0<\/span>region of Azerbaijan. As a result of the war, Armenian armed forces occupied some 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory which includes\u00a0<\/span>Nagorno-Karabakh\u00a0<\/span>and seven adjacent districts (Lachin,\u00a0<\/span>Kalbajar,\u00a0<\/span>Aghdam,\u00a0<\/span>Fuzuli,\u00a0<\/span>Jabrayil,\u00a0<\/span>Gubadli\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Zangilan), and over a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced people.<\/p>\n

The military operations finally came to an end when Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in Bishkek in 1994.<\/p>\n

Dealing with the settlement of the\u00a0<\/span>Nagorno-Karabakh\u00a0<\/span>conflict is the\u00a0<\/span>OSCEMinsk Group, which was created after the meeting of the CSCE (OSCE\u00a0<\/span>after the Budapest summit held in December 1994) Ministerial Council in Helsinki on 24 March 1992. The Group\u2019s members include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, the United States, France, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Finland and Sweden.<\/p>\n

Besides, the\u00a0<\/span>OSCE\u00a0<\/span>Minsk Group has a co-chairmanship institution, comprised of Russian, the US and French co-chairs, which began operating in 1996.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Resolutions 822, 853, 874 and 884 of the UN Security Council, which were passed in short intervals in 1993, and other resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly,\u00a0<\/span>PACE,\u00a0<\/span>OSCE, OIC, and other organizations require Armenia to unconditionally withdraw its troops from Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n
