Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan launched the project directed to prevention of humanitarian tragedy available in Sarsang Water Reservoir.

The reservoir was built over Tartar River in 1976 on 726 meter height. Sarsang Water Reservoir possesses 125-meter high barrier and 560 mln.m3 water capacity. Since 1992 it was exposed to Armenian invasion and now in catastrophic situation thanks to neglect of tehnical devices. Taking these into consideration, we intend to involve the world community to dangerous situation caused by neglect of occupied Sarsang Water Resevoir  having vital improtance for surrounding regions’ population of Azerbaijan and threat of destruction.

Within the framework of the project, it is intended to gain firm codemn of illegal blockade of water supply and irrigation systems in the invaded areas of Azerbaijan by Armenia which also violates fundamental principles of international law; to persuade international organizations’ managing Armenia to surrender control over water  reservoir and all related irrigation channels in accordance with international resolutions.

We call on international community to take urgent measures to eliminate any military subversive activities by Armenia and to be ready for any accident or natural disaster to cause mass human loss in current conditions through this project.

The project provides estimation of harm to be made to population, life, health, property of surrounding areas; the possession of state and commercial bodies as a result of any sabotage or accident in Sarsang Water Reservoir, as well as estimation of technic conditions of the reservoir; establishment of international expert group, their visit to the region, preparation and translation of the reports in some languages; creation of computer model of catastrophe risk of Sarsang Water Reservoir; information activity over adoption of decisions in Azerbaijan, also by foreign countries and international organizations concerning Sarsang water reservoir against Armenia, as well as conferences, publications on international media, and meetings.
