The United States wants a strong, independent, prosperous and democratic Azerbaijan and understands how complicated a region Azerbaijan is situated in, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta said on Thursday, APA reported.
Cekuta underlined that the cooperation between the two countries covers three areas that are equally important.
“The first area is energy and economy, the second is democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and the third is security. Each of these three fields has the same significance. So is it today and so will it be tomorrow,” he said.
Commenting on the release of Mehman Aliyev, the director of Turan News Agency, Cekuta said the US positively assesses this decision.
“We positively assess the release of Mehman Aliyev, and we believe that this positive step is going to be the beginning of a positive approach to democracy and human rights in Azerbaijan,” he added.
