“The relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are of strategic importance. Our economic relations are developing rapidly,” Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at the press conference following the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Baku, APA reports.
Mammadyarov said that they discussed ways to deepen the cooperation, as well as the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: “Russia is a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group. The status quo is unacceptable and we discussed ways to move the issue off deadlock.”
Elmar Mammadyarov noted that parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries is also important, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov has recently visited Russia and the Russian parliamentarians will visit Azerbaijan in the near future.
Elmar Mammadyarov said that they also discussed what is happening in the Middle East and Ukraine; Lavrov conveyed Russia’s position regarding Ukraine.
