The coalition conference on `Stop-Metsamor`will be held on June 2, 2016, at 11.00 with the participation of the NGOs of Turkey, Israil, Ukraine, Iran, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, AzVision.az reports.
The conference will cover the discussions on the statements of the local and international experts related to the dangers of the Metsamor NPP which was establsihed in 1976 and expired.
The coalition will be established and will be adressed to the international community to achieve the closure of the NPP at the end of the meeting.
`The Metsamor NPP which expired remains hazardous for the security of the region`, professor of the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS Rauf Serdarli said.
`Old technological equipment is being used in the NPP. The safety system of the NPP can stop functioning at any time. Furthermore, it can lead to a very dangerous disaster for the region`, he added.
`The Fukushima and Chernbyl disasters proved that no one is insured from atomic disaster. In this manner, there are several aspects to disaster risk in the Metsamor NPP`, he highlighted the importance of the closure of the NPP.
