“The United States values its cooperation with Azerbaijan,” said head of a delegation of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Robert Gudlat as they met with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Novruz Mammadov.
He hailed relations between the two countries, saying the US attaches special importance to developing the bilateral cooperation.
Novruz Mammadov hailed the current level of relations between Azerbaijan and the United States. “Our relations are successfully developing today. We enjoy a very strong and close cooperation in a number of sensitive areas,” the PM noted.
Novruz Mammadov said Azerbaijan has accorded special importance to the expansion of relations with the United States and the European Union since restoring its independence.
Pointing out to the ongoing global geopolitical tensions, PM Novruzov said that from the geopolitical point of view, Azerbaijan is also located in one of the most volatile regions of the world.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said that as a result of aggression of the Armenian armed forces, 20 per cent of Azerbaijani lands were occupied, more than 1 million people became refugees and IDPs. He noted that due to Armenia’s non-constructive policy the current conflict still remains unresolved.
Mammadov said that the centenary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which declared independence in 1918, will be celebrated this year. “Under a decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of May 16, 2017, a series of events on this occasion will be held throughout the country and around the world. Azerbaijan has been loyal to the legal and democratic traditions of statehood established by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic a century ago,” he said.
