Today, on September 30, CoE Social Affairs Committee discussed draft information memorandum by Milica Markovic, MP from Bosnia and Hersogovina and Rapporteur for the motion on “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water” tabled by Elkhan Suleymanov, member of Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE.
According to Mr. Suleymanov, once the issue was put into discussion, members of Armenian delegation made speeches, demanding that the report should deal with water problems in Europe. British MP Mike Hancock, Belgian MP Blanchart, and Moldovan MP Ghiletchi, members of Social Committee, objected to this Armenian suggestion and called on to end such diversions. Despite all efforts of Armenia and PACE Secretariat, the information memorandum was adopted, and their intentions failed.
The efforts of Armenian Delegation with advice of PACE Secretariat to change the names of both the report on the “Escalation of violence in Nagorno Karabakh and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan” discussed in the Assembly yesterday and the report on Sarsang reservoir discussed today in Social Committee and Political Committee show that the Armenian side is alarmed and concerned about the unmasking of their aggressive policy.
It should be noted that the report on Sarsang reservoir to be prepared in PACE will be the first one dealing with occupied strategic facilities.
